What is AQUAMIKE?
From a bad accident to a social idea

In January 2010, my son Michael was in a serious road accident. After surgery on his left femur, he remained immobilised in a hospital bed for two months.
For the first week, family assistance was day and night, but in the second week, as his condition began to improve, assistance was only during the day.
Unfortunately, at night there wasn't always enough staff when my son called to ask for a drink, so after two days of distressing requests from the injured person, I had a flash of inspiration.
I worked in my workshop that same evening and created a rudimentary prototype, which I took to my son in hospital around midnight.

AQUAMIKE is a drinking aid
Ideal when
-
you are bedridden: It helps you drink lying down without having to sit up.
-
you are elderly or disabled and have motor difficulties
-
you have had an accident or a stroke and are in rehabilitation
-
you have arthritis, rheumatism, Parkinson's, muscular dystrophy, tetraplegia

Drink independently
AQUAMIKE is an aid that allows you to drink at any time, without needing the intervention of healthcare professionals or family members.
Improve your fluid balance
You decide the size of your sips. By drinking independently, you tend to drink more water, improving your fluid balance.
Relieve those around you
You no longer have to ask for help every time you are thirsty. You no longer have to wait – especially at night or when the people around you are busy.

How does AQUAMIKE work?
A family member or nurse can place a bottle of any brand, up to one and a half litres, into the AQUAMIKE support. In addition, the graduated bottle can be filled (besides water) with any other hot or cold drink. Then, when you're thirsty, place the silicone valve between your lips and open it by pressing with your teeth. With a slight suction, the drink will then reach your mouth. When you stop sucking, the valve closes, preventing you from taking in too much liquid. The drip-proof spout also prevents spills.
Where can I use AQUAMIKE?
You can use AQUAMIKE at home, in hospital, in other care centres or by taking it with you. It can be attached (with 360° rotation capability) for example to a bed, a wheelchair or a patient lift pole.
What if I can't use my hands at all?
You can use the spinal arch kit option. It is an AQUAMIKE model specifically designed for people who cannot use their hands or arms.
