CREATION OF A NORMIC FISHING ROD
Normic Fishing, since 1985 producing professional equipment for big-game fishing.
In this video, we will see all the steps in making a Normic fishing rod. From selecting the blank to the final precision tests, passing through painting and guide wrapping. Fishing rods completely handcrafted by our artisans in our Italian laboratory!
Initially, the blank is selected, which is the fundamental part of a fishing rod, determining its performance and resistance. Each time a blank is selected, it is tested beyond the permitted poundage limit to determine if it is suitable for use.
Normic blanks are created with ANS (Action Normic System) technology, which allows the fishing rod to have an automatic return action.
For S or S1 line blanks, the single spine present is identified by testing the blank, and the fishing rod is then created along the correct working line of the spine. Meanwhile, S2 and S3 blanks are created in 2 or 3 phases with materials: fine weave special fiberglass, carbon, and Kevlar, which prevents breakages. In S2 blanks, the guides are mounted parallel to the two junctions of the spines. Whereas, in S3 blanks, the guides are mounted on the most powerful spine.
After selecting the blank and identifying the exact working position of the fishing rod, the neoprene Eva grip is mounted. This will serve as the final grip or as a base for the leather grip on more luxurious fishing rods.
Then, the exact points where the guides will be assembled are marked, and the central wrapping is done.
All fishing rods are micrometer-centered where the guides are positioned, so that the line does not touch the blank. In fact, Normic fishing rods are very precise and provide confidence to the angler.
For anglers who are more demanding in terms of design, the Greek pattern is built in the first part of the fishing rod above the grip. The Greek pattern is an embellishment completely handmade by our artisans. Threads of every color are used, according to the angler's preference. In this video, you can see the creation of the Greek pattern on a "Strike S3 Competition" with gold and silver threads. Once the creation is finished, the various sections of the Greek pattern are arranged, and the first coat of paint is applied. The paint used, produced in the USA, is epoxy, elastic, and non-toxic. It is spread with a flame and is UV resistant, which significantly reduces the wear of the fishing rod.
Before finishing the assembly of the fishing rod with the rest of the components, a base coat of paint is applied, and it is rotated for 48 hours, so that the paint adheres perfectly. The main reason this base coat is applied is for the stability of the guide. In fact, when a guide or roller is tied to the rod, it adheres to the paint and does not move, thus making the guide super resistant and preventing it from moving from its original position. The guides receive up to three coats of paint, to ensure that the maximum level of perfection has been achieved. The same procedure is used for mounting the tip and the handle. Finally, the label with the Normic logo is attached, and the fishing rod is ready for the final stage.
For more luxurious fishing rods, leather is assembled on the grip. The leather used is cowhide, treated and greased so that it is resistant to saltwater that can damage it. In fact, it is recommended to treat the grip's leather with a specific wax every 6 months, to prevent it from being damaged by the salinity of the water.
Once the leather processing is finished, you can proceed with the finishing touches to perfect the handcrafted fishing rod.
Before delivering the fishing rod to the angler who commissioned it, it is tested in both directions with a special machine that has a varying weight to verify that the rod works perfectly centered in the spines. Every fishing rod must pass rigorous tests before being delivered to the angler!
As you can see, each product is unique and handmade by our artisans according to the angler's specifications and taste!
