How to equip your boat for tuna fishing in Drifting! 🎣

In this article Michele Nodari explains what are the elements needed to equip a boat and the basic equipment for tuna fishing in Drifting: drifting or anchored!

Which fishing rods to choose?

There are two types of fishing rods:

  • 170/180 cm Stand-Up - For standing fishing;
  • Trolling from 215 cm to 240 cm - For fishing in combat chair with incorporated footrest.

The choice of the type of fishing rod depends on the style of combat you prefer!
The number of fishing rods in the vessel must be at least 3 but not more than 6.

During drifting fishing, we recommend a straight handle, both for rods assembled with roller skates and annellate rods.

The fishing rods that you will choose for your boat will have to be high-performing and allow you to catch the fish having fun and without making too much effort. For this reason, Normic has designed the drums with ANS technology, produced in Italy, which have a peak action with very fast and precise power reserve, are also very reactive and can manage the fish without the fisherman having to indulge him!

In chair fights, the rollerballs assembled in the fishing rod make a real difference in performance. In fact, the handcrafted Roller Normic, Speed 1 and Speed 2 have a special elastic aluminium alloy with stainless steel ball bearings inside. Technically perfect for managing even the most important tuna!

The hooks of the fishing rods, according to the size of the tuna!

Now let's see which hooks are indicated for the fishing rods, based on the size of the tuna we are going to catch:

  • Seabream tuna, from 30Kg to 50Kg: 20/30 LBS or 50 LBS for beginners - Stand-Up discipline;
  • Intermediate tunas, from 60Kg to 120Kg: 50 LBS or 50/80 LBS - Stand-Up discipline or combat chair;
  • Giant tunas, from 130Kg to 300Kg: 80/130 LBS - Stand-Up discipline or combat chair.

Characteristics of the reels!

The reel that is mounted in the fishing rod must be proportioned to the libraggio, so as to ensure stability and ease of use. The main feature of a reel is the clutch that I recommend lever. In addition, aluminium reels are preferred.

Which wire to use?

There are two types of tuna fishing line:

  • Monofilament of Nylon;
  • Braided multi-fiber.

The main characteristics of the Nylono monofilament are: low elasticity, soft at the knot and anti-scratch. We recommend the use of Red Strike thread in 30, 50 and 80 LBS bookshelfs. In fact, in addition to having all the characteristics listed, the red color is not visible underwater and is optimal for catching fish.

The multi-fiber braid has a diameter reduced by about 50% compared to the Nylon wire. We recommend the use of the Normic Braid In thread in the 30, 40, 50, 70, 90 LBS bookshelves.

Battle belts!

For the Stand-Up discipline, leg fighting belts are required, with a comfortable kidney/leg strap. From the experience of more than 35 years of fighting, Normic has been able to create combat kits that are practical and quick to wear when climbing. For giant tunas, Avio and Giant kits are available!
